THE SILVER STORY
silverchair are Daniel Paul
Johns (lead singer and guitar), Benjamin David Gillies (drums), and
Chris John Joannou (bass). All three members are from Newcastle,
Australia.
The singer is Daniel Johns, often called
JOHNSY. He was born on 22nd april 1979. At the begining his mom Julie
used to be manager for the band. Daniel has a sister and a brother.
His brother Heath thinks that silverchair are bad and likes groups
like Green Day. His sister Chelsea is about 10 years old and takes
care od Daniels dog SWEEP, and we have heard loads about Sweep
haven’t we ??? Daniel just loves that dog.
Except of being a singer in the band
Daniel plays a guitar, he plays a Paul Reed guitar. His first guitar
was an Rocks Axe that he payed $80 for. Daniel is a proud owner to 23
more guitars. The head behind all silverchair lyrics is also Daniel,
although he used to write rap songs long time ago !?!?!?
If he hadn’t have succes with the band
Daniel planed to play professionell american football ?!?!? His
favourite classes was english classes and as a child Daniel played
trumpet just to make noise. Many people say about Daniel’s voice "a
voice of one in a million" but Daniel have never taken some singing
lessons.
Many people call Benjamin just Ben or
Short Elvis. Short cause he is the shortest one and Elvis cause he
liked Elvis when he was a kid. Ben is few months younger that Daniel,
he was born on 24th october 1979. Ben is a drummer in the band and
plays Pearl Drums. His favourite food is pizza and nachos.
Chris is the youngest one in the band,
born on 10th november 1979. He has a twinsister Louise. Sometimes
write Chris songs but the rest of SC says that is’t not quite
"silverchair Style". He plays bass and it took him 3 months to learn
how to play.
Daniel and Ben has known eachother since
age of five. They grew up together in Newcastle, Australia. One day
they decided to be in a band. At first they called themselves -Short
Elvis- cause they only sang Elvis Presley songs and the very first
song they sang as a band was ”Hound Dog”. None of them knew how to
play an instrument so they decided to start write rapsongs just for
fun until one day when Daniel bought a guitar and Ben drums. Suddenly
there were an opportunity of really being in a band. Daniel and Ben
invited two of their friends to join the band, Tobin Finanne and
Chris Joannou. They called themselves The Innocent
Criminals.
The Innocent Criminals played in Ben’s
garage at first. First time they played didn’t really go as planed.
Ben was beatin’ shit of his drums, Chris just was playing without
knowing what he did, and Tobin he kinda didn’t do much on his rythm
guitar. Daniel knew that someone needed to sing, so he took the place
as singer. Well the first time he sang he just screamed.
Tobin moved to England for a year and
left the Innocent Criminals. In the beggining the band played covers
from Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Daniel’s neigbour, Sarah Lawson, told to
Daniel that Triple J, one of the radiostations in Australia, had an
demo competition called ”Pick me”. Daniel and the guys hired an
recording studio for 75$ and recorded the song Tommorow. Three months
later on a tuesday, Daniel gets a phonecall saying that silverchair
won the competition. By this time they had to change their name from
"the Innocent Criminals" to "silverchair" cause of a band in America
who claimed that the innocent criminals was their name. Anyway they
won this competition out of 800 bands silverchair won. What they won
was an real recording session to really record Tommorow, and they
would get their song played all over Australia on radiostations.
After that many record companies wanted Silverchair. They signed at
first for a small indie record companie and released "Tomorrow".
After that they signed for Murmur, which is Australian version of
Sony.
John Watson became manager for the band.
Their first album, Frogstomp, was recorded in 9 days in Sydney. The
reason that it took only 9 days is because silverchair didn’t want
some special effects on it. They wanted it to be more as an live
record. After the album release silverchair went to tour with Red Hot
Chili Pepers as opening act. At that point frogstomp was No.1 in the
charts.
Next album they did is Freakshow. A very
good album, with many great singels on it. silverchair don’t care who
listens to their music. They love the fact that their music is
appreciated world wide. They don’t care about anything, they just
love to play music, and they do it so GREAT...
The story is continuing with the
ouotcoming of their third album titled "Neon Ballroom" and and
promo-tour in australia, states and Europe. First single from NB was
"Anthem for the year 2000" a great powerfull track who made big
sucess. Second single from Neon Ballroom is "Ana's song (open
fire)"
And the third single is "Miss you
Love"...No matter what and who says what, silverchair will always be
the best band for me....god bless ya guys
